I just watched Tendai “the beast” Mtawarira accept the man of the match award after the game against the British and Irish Lions. The first thing he did was thank Jesus for helping push! Is this not an unfair advantage? I would go out on a limb here and assume that there are Christians in the Lions team - does this mean that Jesus betrayed those players in support of “the beast”? ;D
I have mentioned this before. It really bugs me that they don’t realise the eminence arrogance of thinking that you are so important that out of a crowd of ± 40000 people that there is an invisible sky boogeyman was focusing all of its attention on them!
Didn’t you know that God is always on my/our side?
So would that make Jesus a pimp for helping to push a propped-up hooker? (groan)
Rugby players and churches both know a little about territory and possession. Unlike the religious half of that equation, however, it seems SA rugby is in a state of flux.

I try to get around to everyone.
Ah, this story takes me back to the heady days of schoolboy hockey!
Before every match, our captain had us gather 'round in a slightly self-concious group embrace, and shot up a little prayer. But he was diplomatic for a kid, and gave it a “please-may-the-best-team-win” spin. I was always very impressed with our captain being such a good sport by not hogging all of God’s goodwill, and it never occurred to me at the time that God might want to take time off from his u/13 hockey responsibilities to allow for more mundane activities such as feeding the hungry, healing the sick and working on His world peace project.
Then followed the usual requests to bless the referee, the minibus, the oranges etc., and to keep all and sundry safe during the game.
And I must say, God came through swimmingly. Without fail, the best team always won.
