Listening to Sky news this morning the main headline is about the current doings of Jade Goody the reality TV star? who is suffering from terminal cancer. She is to have herself and her two boys christened today so that they will be closer to jebus and her when she dies.
Most of the goings on in the past weeks have given the impression that her illness and death are being managed as a publicity event aimed at collecting as much cash as is possible! Does the christening not smell like cynical use of religion to further this?
Yet, less than two weeks ago, Goody had asked for assisted suicide, a decidedly Unchristian thing to do, and she “has been open about wanting to exploit media interest in her battle with cancer to make money for her sons.”
I think you’re right: everything about this reeks of a self-centred publicity stunt and further grubbery, but that’s Goody’s good right, I suppose. Still, one sympathises with all those other terminally ill cancer patients whom the media have completely ignored. Goody could at least be drawing attention to their plight as well.
