This new forum of ours has the capability’s of polling…
Would be nice to have suggestions of what sceptics would like to poll about?
Personally I think this suggestion of mine is a conspiracy to see if sceptics are indeed literate… ;D

How about a poll of how skeptic qrios really is? ;D
I quite like this smf. How about a poll on favourite forum software. (Invision, phpBB, smf etc.)
I don’t feel this was actually posted… - I don’t want to sound sceptical, but how can I be sure I’m not just seeing the post, but in fact I’m in a complete other phpBB driven forum… ???
I used to be against Mind Control Satellites, but now I don’t know how we lived without them!
Perhaps a poll to find out why this place has gone so quiet in last week or so?
That might stimulate some lively debate. On a more serious note, I’m often a little disappointed that TV programmes like “3rd Degree,” “Carte Blanche” and so on don’t provide transcripts of the shows or even a limited-period commentaries page for people to share ideas and views. Such a facility would constitute a rich source of poll and discussion materials.
Maybe SA Sceptics, as a body, could approach the producers of one or more of such programmes and suggest a peripheral involvement, e.g. when some woo-woo claim is made, we could provide sources to consult for a sceptical view or assessment. This suggestion itself is a poll-worthy topic, i.e. should the society pursue an involvement of this kind?

I think folks are too sceptical about the forum… ;D
Regarding your comments on transcripts etc… - my opinion is that the majority of the people either don’t care, or/and don’t think.
Just judging by the lack of posts (by 19 members - out of which only 'bout4 are active), it can be said that people are either too scared to voice their opinion, or just indifferent. Then again I could be completely wrong…
As for myself… I was waiting for the forum to “evolve”, but alas…it only did through “devine intervention” :
I’d agree that general apathy appears to be a primary factor. However, our illustrious admin, bluegray V, is putting in a fine effort to spread the word, as it were. I myself have brought the forum to the attention of several people, but none of them seem inclined to join.
The most precious commodity here is lively debate. At least we have that - most of the time.

Thanks for the kind words
It has been quiet.
But I’m sure things will get better as more members join. It will take some time though. I have tried to contact some existing skeptical organizations in SA, but as of yet had little response. So keep spreading the word to anyone you think might be interested.
As for the forum being quiet, it may be because there are no actual sceptics in SA. I doubt that any of you other posters are real, and sceptical, and in South Africa. ;D
Another problem may be the American spelling skeptic. Maybe no one can find the site. :-[
Anyway, I found my way here via myadsl.co.za.
Joe
Hi Joe…
Our ip adresses get checked for foreign intrusion… ;D
bluegray V - The mod then begs us please to please come back to South Africa, as Fire Brickets was surpassed by Cellphones as the nr.1 item to be stolen in the Johannesburg area… ;D
I for one is very skeptical about the C in skeptical… With the “skep” - the word create in afrikaans is formed.
DON’T tell me that is merely coincidental. - That would be Luthon64’s job. ;D
Jokes aside… I see Joe’s point. The search engines should pick it up if “sceptic” is put in the meta tags?
Hello, and welcome to this fine, but presently underpopulated board, Joe.
The greater problem, I think, is that SAns are singularly poor spellers to begin with, whether US, UK, Autralian or SA English. To many people, if they are even familiar with it, the word “sceptic” equates to “doubting merely for doubt’s sake,” which is of course entirely inaccurate.
And sometimes I’m too cynical for my own good. So I’ll shut up now.

It won’t be too hard to get a sceptic.za.org. I always hated sceptic though - I usually read it as septic
Must agree the American spelling of skeptic does grate…
suggestions for a poll:
Are South Africans poor spellers?
Alien abduction - what would be the purpose?
Is there life after death?
