Forum member Skeptical ability

Hi bluegray V, just curious as to how the “skeptical ability: +4/-2” thing works?

Members can vote for another member by clicking on the [critical thinker] or [woo-woo nut] links. As you can see, two people thought I deserved a woo vote against 4 people who voted me a critical thinker ;D

I don’t see the [critical thinker] or [woo-woo nut] links. One needs a certain amount of posts perhaps?

Which would be a good thing, I was about to abuse 'em.

No, you should find those links on the left of the individual posts where the forum member’s avatar, post count, etc., are found in a normal thread view when you’re logged in. They’re under the “Skeptical ability” label.

I seem 'em clearly, but they are not links to me. Mearly text. :o

Hmm, maybe the rules have changed then to needing a minimum number of posts. Or maybe it has something to do with logging on as a hidden member. Our dear admin, bluegrayV, should be able to clear this up.

Changed status to visible didn’t do it for me. I’ll wait for the bluegray one to inform me where I am going wrong with this.

Not sure it is functioning correctly anyway, with you having -7. Was that for believing in the Easter Bunny that one time?

Thanks for the implicit vote of confidence. Naah, that –7 is a swathe of battle scars inflicted by a Ph.D. theology student whom I thwarted on his central idea that verbal diarrhoea is an adequate substitute for reasoned argument. You can read all about it here.

All I can think of in response to that is:

A Theology Ph.D is like having a Doctorate of Teletubby Anatomy, a BS in Warp-Nacelle engineering or an advanced degree in 'Republican Ethics

Ironically I notice that by post 34 you are being accused of incivility. Something my nemesis accuses you of after only post 21. See why I love my nemesis? It is funny that when one opposes anything woo or religious, one is almost invariably accused of being “uncivil”.

I won’t detract further from this topic and humbly ask the admin what I am doing wrong with the “skeptical ability” thingy and take my gripe to the appropriate thread.

Cyghost! Good to see you!

I guess one needs 10 posts. The text just turned into links for me yesterday. I see you are past 10, so maybe you are all OK now?

I can see them!

Too late now I guess, since you figured it out for yourselves
But too confirm - you need at least 10 posts to modify ‘Skeptical ability’. There is also a restriction of 24 hours between votes for the trigger happy individuals among us…

Seeing as this is discussed here, I’ll continue as opposed to making a new thread.

I just smited someone. Do they know and can they see the reason supplied? Can any one else?

I see it is not moderated, but goes through immediatly. I think it is an amusing feature, one not to be taken too seriously and yet if used sparringly and correctly, have great potential.

Moved the discussion to this new topic
There is a log that keeps all the votes and reasons for those votes. ATM only the Admin can see it.
I check it from time to time to make sure no one is getting too trigger happy :stuck_out_tongue:

That was well done, is quite sensible and as it should be.

Thank you.
