Ozone Medizone

Message from this human on planet Earth:

Refer back to the [i]ENTIRE thread before asking alien questions.

Greetings from a human on (the dying) planet Earth (refer to global warming), TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER!!!

This snake oil is again doing the rounds in Pretoria. Before spending your hard earned cash on this quackery, google all the pros and CONS. And don’t replace your meds with this pseudo-science.

Trioxygen is actually a pollutant. The only place ozone is really beneficial is in the upper atmosphere filtering uv light, and in hotel rooms to rid the place of pathogens from previous visitors. Not a very nice chemical when inhaled, especially for people with compromised immune systems. In fact, the American Lung Association states that there are no safe levels of ozone for people with compromised immune systems.

Luckily, gases don’t filter very nicely through skin so we don’t have more people dying of ozone exposure from these quacky mats…

Another point. Ozone and oxygen are very different molecules and the idea that supercharged oxygen is good for you is flawed.

People who live in chronic high ozone areas suffer from decreased lung capacity and functioning over time. This is because the ozone is highly unstable and reacts with molecules in the lining of our airways causing acute inflammation.

Ozone’s Effects on Human Health Shortness of breath, dry cough or pain when taking a deep breath, tightness of the chest, wheezing, and sometimes even nausea are common responses to ozone. Ozone reacts with molecules in the lining of our airways. Chemical bonds break and reform in different ways with the addition of oxygen atoms (the process of oxidation) from ozone, and this causes acute inflammation. The lining of our airways loses some of its ability to serve as a protective barrier to microbes, toxic chemicals, and allergens. Our airways respond by covering the affected areas with fluid and by contracting muscles. Breathing becomes more difficult.

There are some good pics on this website showing healthy lung tissue versus ozone damaged lung tissue. Not a pretty sight.

Quite so, which is why ozone-producing equipment (photocopiers, laser printers, &c) should be sited away from employees, preferably in a separate, well-ventilated room.
