so help me god...

had the dubious joy of being in divorce court yesterday.
and when you take the witness stand, they ramble off the “do you vow to speak the whole truth… yada yada yada”, and the you need to stick your claw in the air, and say ‘so help me god’.
as i was sitting there, watching other miserable couples end maraiges, and each time watching them say ‘so help me god’, i could feel my ire rising.
not only because douchebag asshat fucktard had to come sit right next to me, but, who is the court, to make you swear on a god, that, may not even be your deity of choice, or not even show in your life at all.
so there i was, and i had to quip, ‘so help me god’, like a good woman, when i wanted to chirp ‘i dont believe in god’
why is our law system still doing this?

You had to do this in the divorce court??? Thats new… or maybe I was just lucky, its been 12 years ago and I just went up, poured out my sad tale, answered the advocates questions, smiled at the magistrate and was allowed to leave with a piece of paper that proclaimed me a bona-fide divorcee.

Is that part at least now finalised?

done and dusted. if fucktard gets conveniently run over, i wont be the prime suspect anymore

You can choose not to take the oath and make an affirmation - both equally binding - but yes, it would seem like a mission as just about everyone takes the oath - I did for eight years as a cop >:D and I have never, in court or taking a statement, seen the affirmation.

I will make a point of it these days.

there wasnt really an option given Cyghost, the cases were pushed through quickly. the judge sits there, bored out of her bracket, and mumbles the same little rhyme over and over, she didnt even look up. if it wasnt a case that i just wanted to get over, i might have made an objection. but i actually found it a little insulting. so, in fact, since i dont believe in god, i could have said anything i liked. since the higher power i swore to tell the truth to, i dont hold in regard.
and, if i remember correctly, our goverment isnt based on religion. unlike, say, america. why then, does one still get told to swear to god?

Had an interesting scenario take place with one of our employees a few years ago, also a pappa moer vir mamma thing, and she sued for divorce on grounds of abuse, he was a self employed man with some serious money but she only wanted a settlement for herself and a reasonable maintenance for her kids, he on the other hand counter sued for custody and the whole shebang got drawn out for about two years - when he gone and offed himself in a car accident. What happened next was one of those gobsmackingly stunning scenarios. Turns out the guy had more than one business and his serious money was actually SERIOUS MONEY, and he never bothered to change his will… he had houses littered around the country - all of them paid up and well-kept - very well kept in fact, she had to evict the girlfriends in the end. She could comfortably retire as she was sole beneficiary. One of those odd karma-is-a-bitch stories that usually only happens in fairy tales.

she needs to go find how/where/who he has been re-incartnated as, and kill his ass again.

;D LOL. But seriously, glad you have finally recovered your freedom.

Mintaka

you have no idea. i have never ignored someone so effectively, while looking completely uninterrested in the situation. i really hope i looked bored as hell. i even managed a yawn. if i had airtime on my phone, i might even have commenced a bit of sexting to pass the time.

…and what’s her contact nos pls? ;D

Yes, I know - they should give the option but never do.

so, in fact, since i dont believe in god, i could have said anything i liked. since the higher power i swore to tell the truth to, i dont hold in regard.
Indeed, we choose to tell the truth and so do theists really - they just think they have a different reason ;)

anyways, congrats if that is the thing to say and may future relations work out better.

…and they lived apart happily ever after.

god willing ;D
