a cure for cancer

gotta love my mom-in-law. another pearl to my inbox:

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY . [Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins ]
  1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
  2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person’s lifetime.
  3. When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
  4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
  5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
  6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
  7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
  8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.
  9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
  10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
  11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.
b… Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract… Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetab les and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes t o nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.?
To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetab les including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetab les 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water–best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12… Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating les s meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15… Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor.
Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. (wtf!!)
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

(PLEASE FORWARD IT TO PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT)

or someone you really hate for that matter

Well, then it’s simple: When someone succumbs to cancer, it’s because they didn’t eat their greens and because they were in the wrong frame of mind, and so they have only themselves to blame. The medical establishment will be much heartened when it hears of this. Malpractice suits are a thing of the past… ::slight_smile:

so, according to this, what you cant eat is:

  • sugar. they don’t say whether sugars from fruit is ok though.
  • salt. am i wrong, but dont we need salt?
  • milk. and cancer feeds of mucus? really (wtf!!)
  • red meat. but chicken and fish is okay. because red meat contains hormones and antibiotics and parasites. and commericially farmed chicken doesnt. erm…
  • no coffee, tea or chocolate. ok. how about rooibos? or green tea? (these fuckers obviously havent seen me without my morning coffee then)
  • meat protien. what about protien in eggs? isnt all protient kinda the same? so bean is a no-go too then?

and then you should be chilled out to prevent cancer.
so basically, you need to be vegetarian. and have to live off suppliments cause you dont eat meat. and then you get to die from all the chemicals used to keep the bugs off the veggies. or, go organic, and be broke-ass. organic = expensive.
and, you should smoke weed. it will chill you out. so you dont cause your cells to freak out and kill you. but when you smoke up, you want to eat cheesecurls. problem right there allready.

Why does “garlic, beetroot and wild potatoes” spring to mind?

Why is religion bad? It kills.

Personally know 2 lifelong vegetarians who died of cancer. and Paul McCartney’s late wife springs to mind, and she was vegan. Its all bullshit (but then we know this), if you’re gonna get it, you’re gonna get it, its the roll of the dice.

It pisses me off no end though, my Mom is clear thus far after the chemo and last year’s hell, but she grew OLD… in mind more so than body, and I had to double my efforts to keep the woo-mongers away from her.

There was a loooong talk on radio some time ago on Classic FM by a medical specialist in nutrition (or whatever the official name is for horribly overqualified nutritionist). He went about the whole episode debunking alternative eating regimes, wild supplement rumours and myths, all kinds of “DON’T EAT X”, or “DO EAT Y!” myths, etc.

Every time he had to come back to the same basic advice: Eat a normal, everyday diet. Don’t cut anything out, don’t eat too much or too little of anything. Balance it all out, and that’s the healthiest diet you’ll ever find, and you won’t need any supplements.

Time and again, caller after caller, question after question, that was the answer. And I bought it hook, line, and sinker. The guy seriously knew what he was talking about, and could justify just what was in every food item he mentioned that your body does need, and that you will be worse off without.

IMHO, every body needs what it needs. some people might need more protien, or more calcium, or wtf-ever. i generally eat what i crave. sometimes i crave peanutbutter, and i would eat it with a spoon from the jar. a while ago, i grazed fish every goddamn day. i’m generally reasonably healthy. i have switched over to low-fat yoghurts and margarines, jsut coz it makes me feel better, then i can eat haagen daz over the weekend. i have taken to eating yoghurt as often as i can remember, coz it has cultures in it. that at least i know is legit. i have discovered a herbal sinus pill which rocks my world. whether it be placebo or not, i dont care, my head isnt exploding on a weekly basis.
i have never followed a diet or eating plan. and i would like to be vegan, simply coz i feel bad for the animals. but i reaaaly like steak. and i hate beans. and tofu.
i barely eat veggies. cant stand the shit.
moral of the story. eat whatever you want. but in MODERATION. and use your pip. just grazing soup for weeks on end, you are going to end up feeling like crap.

and just with the cancer thing in mind. as far as i understand, cancer is caused by radiation causing the dna in your cell nucleus freaking out, and making a weird cell, and that weird cell makes more weird cells. and so on and so forth. or do i have the dog by the arse?

I also support this view. How to compile a nutritionally balanced meal is taught in basic school biology. A variety of foods in moderation is the key to it.

as far as i understand, cancer is caused by radiation causing the dna in your cell nucleus freaking out

Basically your cell DNA gets damaged and/or mutated by something. That something can be radiation (radioactive, UV, x-rays… etc) or it could be any number of other things like certain chemicals, smoke, etc… All these together are classified as Carcinogens. “Freaking out” is not technically correct. Mostly, when such damage occurs either the cell or your body realises something is up, and the cell gets destroyed. Apparently this happens every day, such damage to DNA mostly goes entirely unnoticed. As far as I’ve read you need a SPECIFIC set of mutations before it becomes a dangerous cancer… The cell has to have it’s DNA altered in specific ways so that it can do stuff like:

  • Absorb more nutrients than usual.
  • Not self-destruct in the usual fashion. (Cells have a built-in self-destruct for when things go wrong)
  • Does not get waxed by your immune system. (Your immune system would normally detect that it’s gone all dark-side, and kill it)
  • Multiplies rapidly
    … stuff like that.

SO BASICALLY, a cancer is usually a whole SET of mutations that happened over time, to a specific cell, or set of cells, that eventually led to ONE of them by chance becoming a SUPER cell, more ferocious than others, resistant to normal safeguards, hungry as a mofo… Then it starts just taking over. This is why it can take years to develop a cancer from smoking, or a month, or never… nobody can tell, it’s all up to chance mutations that have to happen in specific ways for the cell to become a “cancer” as we know it.

There’s even an example of a cancer mutating to the point that it became infectious. Tasmanian devils apparently bite eachother on the face a lot during fights. Well one developed a cancer that ended up landing on the face/mouth of another. Who then also got the cancer. Now I hear the entire tasmanian devil population is in danger of being wiped out by One cancer coming from One individual animal. That is scary as fuck. What happens if a cancer ever evolves to become airborne?

, and making a weird cell, and that weird cell makes more weird cells. and so on and so forth. or do i have the dog by the arse?

That’s the part that kills you yes. It just divides uncontrollably and the tumor grows and grows, spreading maybe through your blood, etc… until it kills you.

(I am not a doctor and may be talking out my arse, but I’ve listened to real doctors and scientists discuss this and I’m pretty sure it’s accurate)

no shit sherlock ;D

Well, there goes the neighbourhood.

random thought
what if cancer is part of evolution? it’s a part of the cell’s processes to create mutations, the mutations that enables the organism to survive better, obviously makes it procreate and thrive. those that cause the organism to die, ja well, shit happens.

Not a bad thought. But there are a lot of “buts” to this:

BUT, as long as people get cancer after procreation, it has no effect. (Dying after procreating doesn’t help select against that trait, as long as you weren’t going to procreate some more)
BUT, with all our medical intervention a cure for cancer is probably a lot closer on the horizon, and once again our evolution remains unchanged.

In other words yes, you die, shit happened, but our collective offspring don’t reap the reward of your “unfitness” ending in death (predisposition to breast cancer, for example).

gawddammit boogie, just let me feel clever for one moment, will ya ::slight_smile:

not quite right Boogie…my prostrate cancer has precluded the possibility of my every having offspring again: so maybe GCG has a point; you see cancer has a brain and decided that 4 kids is enough spreading of my shitty genes around and pulled the plug on me… ;D ;D ;D

But through testing the predisposition towards a particular form of cancer can be determined. This can lead to regular testing and the early discovery and treatment of the tumour(s) with a greater chance of survival.
The women in the one branch of my family have all died from a particular form of cancer, my sister has regular tests conducted and will if unlucky still be able to catch it early enough to survive to spend many more years with her grandchildren!

Er, “prostate cancer.” “Prostrate” is what you will be, should the cancer get the better of you…

For cancer to start spreading like a transmissible airborne pathogen, it would have to become an autonomous or semi-autonomous living agent like a virus or a bacterium. The intriguing case of the Tasmanian devils (source?) is somewhat different since the cancer cells originated from a single individual. Some oncologists hypothesise that certain viruses are implicated in the onset of certain cancers. Viruses inject their own RNA into host cells and the host cell then makes new viruses as a by-product of its own replication mechanism. Put simply, the idea is that if the right RNA sequence is injected at the right time, the host cell may start replicating uncontrollably and so become a cancer. However, many details of this conjecture remain unclear.

Some interesting micrographs of a rare trivision in a particularly nasty cancer cell.

The intriguing case of the Tasmanian devils (source?)

I heard about it first on Radiolab, and since I’ve seen it mentioned in various places… I see it’s got it’s own wikipedia page now…
