A Shocking Idea: Nerves Might Run on Sound, Not Electricity
For the moment it’s only a idea and nothing more. But it will be a bit shocking if it is true and I personally can’t wait for more information be released on this subject. So if you find anything please share it here, I will do the same.
Regards,
This, for those who are not familiar with the jargon, is science-speak for “it’s codswallop.”
Two questions spring to mind:
[ol]- How does this new hypothesis account for the pain and physical convulsion produced by a sufficient electric shock?
- How can the mechanical properties of nerve material (axons, glial cells and the myelin sheath), being mostly visco-plastic with hardly any elasticity, support the efficient transmission of compressional waves?[/ol]
It seems to me that the picture is at least as incomplete as the one it seeks to replace.
