I’ve asked for a copy of darling Kent’s CD, just for sh*ts and giggles.
I’ve been following this nutter for a few years now - was muy glad when his passport got pulled and he had to cancel his trip out here in August. Still would have been interesting to go to one of his seminars, even though I would have probably not achieved much. His seminars are reknowned for not allowing any dissent.
I’d keep tabs on the site, though - it looks pretty empty right now, but could blossom, and we should be ready.
I’m not too far from the Cradle of Humankind, and have visited various attractions there but I haven’t noticed our intrepid CS protagonists handing out CDs. Next time I go, I’ll make a point of enquiring after them. I’m sure they’ve chosen that location quite consciously, though I think the irony thereof is lost on them.
While being escorted, a bunch of American tourists arrived which I jumped to the opportunity and handed out a few more of our CD's. Which they all took smiling.
I would have liked to see those smiles. I bet they didn't expect to go all that way and find the same baloney they have back home.
How to get SAVED!
They don’t even bother trying to dress up religion as science.
I haven’t really encountered that many people that believe in CS in SA. I always thought it might be because we are so saturated with religion already, and too conservative to incorporate any new ideas.
I’m entirely guessing here, based partly on personal experience and partly on casual discussions with a few academics in the archaeology and anthropology fields, but SA seems to have a relatively small but nonetheless fervent contingent of creationists, which, as you point out, is largely overshadowed by a host of other religious and quasi-religious thinking.
Some years ago I worked in a small company of about 25 people, where one individual regularly e-mailed everyone the latest drivel from Hovind, Behe, Dembski, etc. After the third or fourth time that I posted rebuttals, drawn from suitable online resources, and a reminder that we were at a place of work, not worship, the propaganda pushing antics stopped. Simply forbidding these activities would have been too easy.
Also, the cartoon on this page is a hoot! It contradicts a fundamental tenet of “creation science” in one very significant respect. Can you spot what that is?
I tried to question him on some of his “theories” and the “God did it” answer was de facto. Also tried to point out to him that a literal interpretation of the bible is a dangerous idea, pointed him to some bible verses that claims a geocentric solar system (can it be called a SOLAR system if the sun is not in the center?) and he replied with the weirdest document I have ever laid eyes on. It went to great trouble to explain that the earth is in fact the center of the solar system. Al sorts of weird, wobbly acrobatics that the sun supposedly goes trough to achieve things like summer and winter solstice and Venus eclipses etc.
If I still have it on my laptop I will post it in the humor section. ;D
Creationism/Intelligent Design in South Africa - here’s an entire recent thread on a local forum. Though the thread has been locked, there’s some informative and entertaining stuff there - well worth the read.
Author Pieter Pelser, well known for his staunch creationist views concurred: "There is nothing in real science that proves evolution," he said, "I cannot see why it should be introduced at school. It will just cause confusion. It's a theory, a belief system, that is contrary to 75% of the belief systems of the people in the country."
This is a classic ID statement. Trying to get rid of science by making a religion out of it. This is just not true. It is a theory and a belief system, but it is one with a mountain of evidence behind it, just like the other scientific theories that people accept as truth everyday.
"Yet it is a subject that poses real problems for some teachers in the classroom. How does a teacher approach evolution when she is faced with a classroom of 25 Muslim girls in Leicester - without intruding on their personal faith?"
And this is why evolution gets special treatment as a scientific fact. There is no reason (other than for political reasons) that you should be afraid to intrude on an idea just because you have a different one. Why do religion get a special status as untouchable?
I’m a Creationist and I believe the Bible from cover to cover. I believe that God created this earth 6000 years ago, there was a world wide flood 4400 years ago, Jesus Christ died (for your and my sins) 2000 years ago and Christ is coming back soon and we must get ready to fight, either for or against God. So it’s your duty to find out what your general wants and get busy. There is no sitting on the fence here folks.
I’m sorry to hear that guys are so against God. I will pray for you that God will stir your hearts. Christ died for your sins and he wants to save you from Hell and eternal damnation - it’s a free gift all you have to do is ask Jesus to forgive your sins and come into your heart. Our time is short on this earth - i hope you make the right choice.
To that person who ordered a CD from that website to have a giggle. That organisation spent their money, time and even effort getting that CD to you. Lets consider something… someone had to work for that money which paid for the postage, the CD, the envelop, etc. He / she did it for God and thus it belongs to God. I’m not sure what was done with that CD, but thats between that person and God. Lets say it was thrown away, now this person is responsible for throwing away something that belongs to God. They are going to be answerable to Him one day, because that CD could have reached someone who really needed it and could have been saved for Christ. So please bear in mind your actions.
So many questions prompted by your post. I don’t know of any guys on this board who are “against God”. Some of us don’t believe that there is any god, but that’s quite different. Let’s focus on just one: eternal damnation. Why? Why do you believe God would ordain infinite punishment for an imperfect creature breaking a rule in a finite life?
