This is in afrikaans, but it does touch on ID and is a good example of how uninformed some people are about evolution and natural selection.

I have to wonder if it is just ignorance or the need to try and fit known scientific facts into your own world view and belief system.
That article is chock-full of the usual anti-evolution canards and misrepresentations. Here are just a few examples:
…and on and on.
Last week I downloaded the three articles on scientific materialism, and they’re just as fraught (“vrot?”) with errors.
It’s an education reading such materials as are found at that site, but not, I think, edifying in the way the authors intended.

In my opinion, this whole anti evolution farce that is being peddled by some religious sects has nothing to do with the so-called truth. Evolution is perceived as a threat.
They no longer have a monopoly on morals and origins, things that were very important selling points to them. Evolution does a very good job of explaining exactly why we sometimes are moral and altruistic animals, and also why some of use are not. ‘The Selfish Gene’ has a very good chapter on this topic, and it is also explained quite well in S. Pinker’s ‘How the mind works’
The bottom line is that it is threatening their bottom line! It’s all about the money, less sheep in the pews equals less money in the collection plate. That means no new BMW.
I’m sure money is a big motivation, and there certainly are some of them that will be doing it for the money. But most I think, is not doing it for a new BMW. They most likely really believe in what they are doing, have families to support or just don’t know any better.
Also, the lack of proper education around evolution does not help at all. You cannot expect all people to do research on evolution by themselves. Not even to mention the general lack of scientific know how in society today.
That is what we have to try and change.
I suppose you are right, there are some of them that are genuinely disillusioned, but there are so many of them that actually do drive new beemers And then there is also plenty of them “falling for the temptation of the devil”, ending up in some fraud or embezzlement lawsuit.
My opinion is biased, I don’t like them and their ilk! >:(
My biggest gripe is the self-assurance with which the believer often spreads his message as though it was the absolute truth, which indicates that no argument, logical objection, or empirical evidence is powerful enough to be taken seriously, never mind prompting a review of the belief.
A lesser, but related, gripe of mine in this context is the smug superiority on the part of the believer that usually accompanies any discussion between believer and non-believer on questions of faith. There’s almost always a strong sense of condescension, as if to say, “Yeah, I’ve heard it all before, and it’s all rubbish in the face of what I know.”
It’s that unshakeable self-assurance coupled to a strongly emotive delusion that makes for an infuriating mix.

I know what you mean. I’ve seen that from most people that are very sure of their position though. Believers and non-believers. The difference of course, is the evidence behind the argument. And the person’s willingness to put his position under scrutiny to make sure it holds up to all the evidence. When it doesn’t he must reconsider his argument.
Oh, and when I click the "Post" button, I will move from "Jr. Member" to "Full Member."May it be the first of many :D
BTW. There is a “Send this topic” link on the bottom of the posts ( I just noticed it : )
It should be used more I think.

Hmm, I must be missing something, possibly the obvious ???. All I can see at the bottom of each post is a “Report to moderator” and a “IP Logged” link.
Is this a profile setting, or maybe the link you’re talking about is only available to you as admin/chief mod?

It is enabled for regular members - right at the bottom of each page, next to reply/notify/print

OK, thanks - just as I suspected: I was missing the obvious.

Anacoluthon64, they misrepresent evolution- they lie- in order to save morality! They use the non-sequitur that if one accepts evolution, then one has no basis for morality and would be as amoral as other animals as though there were good morals in the ages of faith! :’(
