Gravestones

Since we are all (or most of us) atheists the traditional bible verse would be a bit hypocritical one day on our gravestones. Personally I don’t want anything. I’ve donated my body to Tuks’s medical department and when they are done they can flush my ashes down the toilet for all I care. Heard a good one the other day “Ek het mos gese ek voel siek!” but what would you like to be remembered for?
On second thought maybe “I did it my way and look where it got me”

Stolen from Spike Milligan: “Dúirt mé leat go raibh mé breoite” (I told them I wasn’t feeling well.)

I’d like my earthly remains to be dumped in a hole in the ground and a tree planted on top; no gravestones or monuments, thank you. Perhaps I should also first arrange for the medical students to learn something by cutting me up…

I don’t particularly care. I’ve already told my closest family to eschew the church service, but other than that I don’t much care. If it makes them feel better to bury me, burn me, whatever… it’s for them, not me.

I’ve registered to have my organs donated, and the rest to go to science, let the students cut up and learn what they need to from whatever happens to be left over. I couldnt be bothered what they do with whatever is left over after that. I specifically noted in my will (and to everyone around me) that I want no service of any kind.

Epitaph for Prince Frederick Louis of Wales (1707 - 1751):

“Here lies poor Fred who was alive and is dead,
Had it been his father I had much rather,
Had it been his sister nobody would have missed her,
Had it been his brother, still better than another,
Had it been the whole generation, so much better for the nation,
But since it is Fred who was alive and is dead,
There is no more to be said!”

Here lies Lester Moore
Four slugs from a .44
No Les No More.

Here lies an Atheist
All dressed up
And no place to go.

Here lies the body
of Jonathan Blake
Stepped on the gas
Instead of the brake.

Here lays Butch,
We planted him raw.
He was quick on the trigger,
But slow on the draw.

Sir John Strange
Here lies an honest lawyer,
And that is Strange.

Here lies the body of our Anna
Done to death by a banana
It wasn’t the fruit that laid her low
But the skin of the thing that made her go.

In a cemetery in England:
Remember man, as you walk by,
As you are now, so once was I,
As I am now, so shall you be,
Remember this and follow me.
To which someone replied by writing on the tombstone:
To follow you I’ll not consent,
Until I know which way you went.

Compare these two:

Here lies Jonathan Bell. In heaven is he, not in hell. That I know well.
Here lies Jonothan Bell. In heaven is he not, in hell. That I know well.

People who can’t punctuate properly deserve to go to hell.

;D
This may be a case of the sins of the sons visited upon the fathers.

About going out in style.
