Star Trekian quantum teleportation breakthrough
A study published in the June 2010 issue of the scientific journal Nature Photonics describes how scientists in China were able to push telecommunications technology forward in a very Star Trekian way. Scientists believe this new breakthrough in photon science will lead to worldwide unbreakable, encrypted communication.

awesomeness
Hey, we already have communicators - aka cell phones - and the tricorder is only a few years off (parts of it are here already), so transporters can’t be that far away…NOT!
Not unless you can quantum entangle an exactly similar arrangement of particles as constitutes an object / person…and we don’t even have the vaguest clue how to do that. Scanning might be a little slow, too - not to mention destructive. And teleporting a person as an inanimate collection of atoms kind of begs the point. Maybe it will just lead to good communication.
