Star Wars Lego looks like Mosque.

Lego has been accused of racism by the Turkish community over a Star Wars model that supposedly resembles one of Istanbul’s most revered mosques.

Austria’s Turkish community said the model was based on Hagia Sophia mosque in Istanbul and that the accompanying figures depicted Asians and Orientals as people with “deceitful and criminal personalities.”

The Turkish Cultural Community of Austria released a statement calling for Lego to apologise for affronting religious and cultural feelings.

The Turkish Cultural Community of Austria indeed? Them both?
As Long John Silver would have said: “Shiver my bones!”

The concept artists who come up with designs for creatures, vehicles, buildings and so on for SF and fantasy movies seldom invent these completely from scratch. Virtually everything they draw is based on existing things that they have seen or have reference photos of. If Jabba’s palace here is really based on the Hagia Sophia mosque, the Muslims should actually take it as a compliment - it means whoever designed the palace found the mosque visually striking and memorable. It is possible that he/she merely saw a photo of it and did not even know the name or history of the building.

In short, they’re bloody paranoid and deserve to be lampooned.

In fact very little art happens without some inspiration and influencing. I’d bet whoever designed that mosque had a couple of ganders at other designs too. No human is a blank slate.

However, the whole “therefore they’re saying we’re all evil” thing is BS.

so what if it ‘resembles’ an Islamic icon? They are totally paranoid. These same assholes want to destroy the Sphinx and Pyramids as they are idolatry! It’s time the world stood up to them and told them to stuff off!
