I pay tax like any law abiding citizen of South Africa. In return we expect some basic services. Problem is if you get sick and you still want to come out alive you have to go to a private hospital. Toll roads are decent but you take a chance on normal roads (potholes). For protection you get a private security / alarm company. You want good education for you kids? Some government schools are still OK but you have to start thinking private. It is illegal to sell electricity (Eskom’s got a monopoly) or to handle the post, otherwise private companies would do it. In a free economy Telkom will go bankrupt. The SABC is a bad joke. After standing in line for two hours, for a passport, I left as the line was not moving (still do not have a passport). Way are we paying tax?
