unashamedlyethical

A full page ad in our local paper (Middelburg Observer) led me to this site www.unashamedlyethical.co.za. You have to commit yourself to ethical standards and if you don’t, and get reported, an ombudsman will - I don’t know do what. The ad started with “Jesus gives you grace” and the site’s got some Christian ads on it. You can also buy DVD and stuff. I don’t know what to make of it but is sounds like another loony Christian idea to part the faithful of their money.

Go check out where they get their money from:

On the list is a company called “Brights Hardware Store.” I.e. they are funded by atheist plumbers, so they can’t be a religious organization. ;D

This page does make it look more like a religious thing:

Not that I mind. South Africa can do with more ethical behaviour.

The implication that one has to be religious in order to behave ethically is what offends me… I don’t have to believe in god in order to know ethical from unethical behavior.
No question that they are a religious organization by the way - their founder and chairman is a guy called Graham Power. Google him - he has shared the stage with the likes of Angus Buchan, and is also the organizer (or one of the organizers) of that “global day of prayer” stuff.

I think that was what bothered me from the beginning. Nicely put. (wtf!!)

No, indeed not, but if the church can make a responsible contribution to morality I wouldn’t complain about it.

Oh dear, that doesn’t bode well…

Some more info in this week’s paper. The headline is “Dorp word Geseën”
My translation.
“If a business join it’s name will be listed on the site. The idea is that if you need a plumber, you go to the site, and you know that ethical plumbers are listed. If he turns out to be less than ethical the ombudsman will look at the case, and if found guilty, his name will come off the ethical list. His name will then go onto a “black list”.”

If I don’t join their club, does it mean I am not ethical, as Lilli pointed out? Who prevents them from putting me on their black list? Who decide what is ethical? We need ethics but it is not for some self appointed group to decide what it must be. There is also a reverence to some Bible verse. “This is the third part of 2Kronieke 7:14” Don’t say anything about ethical business practices that I can see. This still smells like a scam to me.

More like a protection racket than a scam if you asked me!! >:D
