The PHOTOGRAPHY thread

Ok, I now have the telescope (LX90), the camera (Canon 450D), Software (Registax) and the Knowhow (Rigel Kent). Also ordered “Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/450D for Dummies” Just need an adapter to connect said camera to the scope and then I can start to bore you with, I hope, not very bad pictures. How difficult can it be?

Last night I was going to try out my nonexisting astrophotography skills on the Venus / Jupiter conjunction but made the mistake of announcing it on Facebook. Quite a few people came and by the time I’ve shown them Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Jewel Box, Omega Centauri and pointed out a few constellations the pair was down. I then thought I’ll take pictures of Saturn only to discover that the camera won’t fit if the object is high in the sky. Then I tried C80 (Omega Cen) but then could not get Live View to work on the camera to focus it. A comedy of errors. Lessons learned and notes to self: 1. If photographs are the object of putting up the scope, do not invite people to come and look at the planets. 2. Choose the objects to be captured when they are lower in the sky. 3. Study the manual. My “Canon for Dummies” will only be delivered on Tuesday. So you will have to wait for my wonders of the sky pictures.

I have completely forgotten about the conjunction - been battling the worst flu I have had in years. Hopefully the web will soon be awash in pics.

It will be still ok tonight.

Ek gaan vanaand weer probeer.

Sonder tracking sal jy die exposure so kort as moontlik moet maak met hoogste ISO.

The Barlow spreads Saturn’s light out over a larger area, so the bottom pic appears overexposed whereas the top one is about right. Both appear equally in focus, though.

Thanks but how do I solve the overexposed problem on the webcam. Moon filter?

Have you tried fiddling these settings?

Dankie, sal weer probeer vanaand, anders sal ek maar alle saambring as ek by Handhaaf werk.

Partial eclipse, 1 September 2016, Eastern Cape

P, Tv, Av, A-Dep of M?
